July Happenings in The Mother City…

Here’s our pick of the best events, shows and festivals taking place this month, and a reminder to put the 18th of July into the diary, honouring Madiba’s birthday.

  • The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival – Continuing on from June…only on until the 7th of July 2024. For a fabulous night out of comedy, where you and your friends can let the humour warm the wintry cockles of your hearts, head to the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town.
  • Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Protection – For the first time ever in South Africa, Pieter Toerien presents Agatha Christie’s ingenious courtroom drama that will keep you on the edge of your seats for a few hours of a theatrical thriller! head to the Theatre on the Bay, Camps Bay, Cape Town. From the 3rd of July 2024.
  • The Stories We Tell – Unpacking the challenging topics of the times, a theatrical piece that’s as poignant as it is positively insightful. For an evening of different perspectives and narratives being shared, head to the Artscape Theatre, Cape Town. From the 11th of July 2024.
  • Franschhoek Bastille Festival – The wine valley’s iconic annual Bastille celebrations are back. Food stalls, live entertainment, wine and merriment all around the village of Franschhoek over the weekend of the 13th and 14th of July. Dive into the vibrant tapestry of French culture, savouring some of the finest grapes in the country at the same time.
  • Mandela Day – An annual global celebration takes place on the 18th of July in honour of the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela.
  • Hamlet – The prestigious Shakespeare Festival returns to the Cape to present their thrilling take on Shakespeare’s greatest play. Visit the Artscape Theatre, Cape Town, from the 18th of July 2024.
  • TimeOut Market Cape Town – For an evening of comedy with the nation’s greatest comedians, as well as the occasional international guests, head to the market place at the V&A Waterfront for an uplifting laughter session. A great place to dine out, too. Every Thursday evening from 20h00 until 22h00.
