Meandering the month of May with Curiosity



With the inevitable change in the seasons upon us, Cape Town puts on a splendid display of festivities, for us to go out and be active, embracing the blissful ambience of autumn.

Upcoming events to look forward to…

  • WE ARE AFRICA – The world’s most vibrant gathering of luxury African travel brands, the finest buyers and top international press, celebrating the continent’s diversity and inimitable beauty. Designed to reframe how the world sees the continent, We Are Africa celebrates its diversity, creativity, culture, landscapes, wildlife, and people whilst driving economic growth, honouring community, conservation, and creating space for authentic storytelling. At the DHL stadium between the 4th and 9th of May, 2026.
  • Franschhoek Literary Festival – A cultural highlight of the Cape Winelands, bringing together local and international authors, publishers and bibliophiles. Indulging in long talks, readings and debates about all-things-literary. Franschhoek Village from the 15th until the 17th of May, 2026.
  • Nik Rabinowitz – Work in Progress – The esteemed South African stand-up comedian returns to the stage in Observatory, from the 19th until the 23rd of May, 2026. Expect fresh material, unexpected turns, and the electric energy that comes with watching a comedian shape a show in real time.
  • Carmen – Cape Town Opera presents Georges Bizet’s Carmen – a story of passion, freedom and jealousy. Bizet’s blend of Spanish-inspired flair, dramatic action, and emotional depth makes Carmen appealing to all audiences, and especially to those new to opera. At the Artscape Opera House from the 19th until the 31st of May, 2026.
  • Sanlam Cape Town Marathon – The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is Africa’s first Abbott World Marathon Majors Candidate and is working towards becoming the continent’s first Major. The weekend offers a full range of events, including the road marathon, the Peace Runs and trail runs that highlight Cape Town’s natural scenery. From the 23rd until the 24th of May, 2026.
  • Jive Cape Town Funny Festival – The perfect antidote to the winter blues, the giggle-fest is back with some of South Africa’s favourite comics and top variety acts from around the world. From the 28th of May, until the 21st of June, 2026 at the Baxter Theatre, Rondebosch, Cape Town.
  • The Good Life Show –  From the 29th until the 31st of May, 2026, at the CTICC. Visitors can sip, taste, touch, smell and explore a curated marketplace of innovative brands, immerse themselves in chef demonstrations, from leading local and continental culinary innovators, experience bold African flavours and contemporary food culture, engage in workshops and masterclasses, and mingle with experts shaping the future of food, health and sustainable living.
